Meet Cindy

Cindy is a Lowcountry native, a “from yeh, not a come yeh,” who lives by 5 simple principals: don’t lie, don’t cheat, don’t steal, be nice, and make your Moma proud. Simple, effective, and all encompassing; this is how she was raised and something she has grown to believe. She was born in Colleton County, at Colleton County Hospital. She was raised in rural Dorchester County, near a little cross road named Rosinville. She grew up on a small farm, roaming woods and fields. On that farm, she learned hard work, self-reliance and ingenuity. “Can’t” was not in her vocabulary; “done” was.  Her Dad would say, “more grit than quit.” She learned to be smart about work and to cooperate to get a job done. She learned failure was not an excuse to quit, but simply a way it couldn’t be done. There were problems to solve. “No excuses, nothing to stop you, no bickering, you got this, figure it out.” She has carried that grit and determination with her.

She was educated in Dorchester County public schools, first in Harleyville, then graduating from St. George High School. She went to college in Columbia at the University of South Carolina, earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing, and a Post-Master Certificate in Family Practice (10 years total). While in college, she worked for Representative George Bailey at the S.C. State House for 3 years. When in college, she was told that her course of study didn’t exist, so she merged two degrees to get what she wanted. She has has been a Nurse for 10 years, and a Nurse Practitioner for 28 years.

Cindy has lived in many places. She went with her husband on international job assignments, living in Indonesia, England, and France. She returned to America after the birth of their son and lived near Washington D.C. She moved to Columbia and then to Atlanta following the birth of their daughter.

Cindy’s 27-year long marriage to her husband (her rock) and the birth and growth of their 2 children have repeatedly confirmed her faith in an awesome God. When their children were 9 and 11 years old, she wanted them to be raised here, as she was. They found a great community in Pinopolis and returned to the Lowcountry to baptize their babies in this wonderful place. Their children were educated in Berkeley County public schools, Trident Technical College, and the University of South Carolina. They are explorers like their father. Her son is serving in the U.S. Air Force in Japan and her daughter is attending graduate school at the Technical University of Munich. They are the epitome of her pride and joy.

She respects Charleston County and adores the beauty, rich history, and architecture it has to offer. Charleston’s food and culture are part of her soul. She loves spending time in Beaufort County at their little place on St. Helena, where they fish, crab, boat, and generally bum around. Her parents were native to the South Carolina Lowcountry, as were their parents. She was born here, raised here, lives here and, God willing, will die here. She’s explored the world, but her roots are deeply buried in the Lowcountry and the black waters of the Edisto runs through her veins. She loves it here. This place is now and forever will be her home.
